I understand the rage that comes when we lose a hand, even more when I go all-in. But, friends. There are limits that must be respected. I think everyone knows about the legislation that talks about xenophobia, racism, prejudice, and other aggressive forms of insults. The site and the person can be held criminally responsible for what is said in the chats, beware. It’s happened to me a couple of times. I’m not going to go into diplomatic merits and talk about the US, this is not the right place. But, Americans, (most of them respect), don’t need to like others, just respecting is good.

Things are different in the UK. The Criminal Justice and Public Order Act of 1994, section 4a states…
A person is guilty of an offence if, with intent to cause a person harassment, alarm or distress, he—
(a) uses threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, or disorderly behaviour, or
(b) displays any writing, sign or other visible representation which is threatening, abusive or insulting, thereby causing that or another person harassment, alarm or distress.
A person guilty of an offence under this section is liable on summary conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to a fine not exceeding level 5 on the standard scale or to both.

Do not put your trust in laws and legislation.
You may believe that these are the framework of civilization, as they should be. They are seldom administered justly.
Be nice.
If you get your kicks from insulting others, you will get your kicks in the teeth eventually. If you are too civilized to shake off the slings and arrows of outrageous trash talkers, restrict yourself to playing Chutes and Ladders with your children. You and your children will both benefit immensely.

Ah yes, the little known US Suck It Up Buttercup Doctrine of 1843, Section 2B, which clearly states…
(1) Sticks and stones can break your bones, but words can never harm you.
(2) If the words from random strangers offend you, just wait. They will eventually invent “safe zones” where your sobs will be comforted by like unminded people.
(3) In the most egregious cases, remember that dueling is still legal. Slam a few shots or rye to bolster your courage, then slap them upside the head with a glove. For safety’s sake, choose “raw 3 pound trout” as the weapon.

LOL. I prefer sabre vs pistols, and the German version of dueling where opponents were expected to stand prone. A duelist with a clean, straight scar on his face was considered to be honorable as he did not move or flinch when his opponent’s sabre struck. I got this from the American novelist Catherine Anne Porter, whom I consider to be an expert on German customs. I appreciate that residents of the American south prefer pistols at 20 paces, although according to the etiquette of dueling, glove slaps are verboten. I come from a time when free expression was treasured and seen as a fundamental right and the backbone of a free society. A right that was not given, it was purchased with blood of our ancestors through centuries of revolution against tyrants.
It’s beyond disturbing to watch people of this generation cheer for it to be eroded in the name of not hurting people’s feelings.
Speech should only be criminal if directly and explicitly incites people to commit crime or purposely and maliciously places people in immediate danger of physical harm.
Making bigoted statements in a chat is deplorable and grounds for a permanent ban from the site. But criminal? Absolutely not, never.

It isn’t that hard to control the words you speak or type. Have some discipline. If you lose it for a moment, apologize like a grown up. We all make mistakes and we all have the power to self-correct.
As to legality:
In the US, a more stringent criteria than this is necessary, as per Brandenburg v Ohio (1969). This is the case that clarified the “clear and present danger” standard established in Schenck v. United States (1919). Most of the world does not have the same legal protections. At the rate things are going in the US, we may not have them for much longer.

Yes we all need to respect each other better,sometimes its hard words and even bulling,its not fun and makes me sad,i do report it when i come across it! I feel better to say good hit,nice done when i lose! But evrything reflects how the world we live in! The hate is building up in sweden,peopel who only think of them self,spoild rats we are,yes its hard to get 150000 peopel i one year from Syria and so on,we are a littel country! I am scared the view is so much harder now,border closed! That i mean is keep the calm,respect eacht other,we all matters,hate only destroy your self and others,lets work together for a solution insteed than hate!! I think and belive them who hate dont feel so good and need help so let us help each other! So stop hate,why not play poker,its a beautiful game,win or lose its beautiful!!

Nobody has an idea of what people go though - so be kind to others but… When your pigtails are pulled and the boys are mean and you have done nothing wrong then… My dad (who is my world) says you stick up for yourself … so wish dad could play poker he would love it xx

The old saying “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all” applies perfectly here. That is the beauty though, of internet poker. You can say all the nasty things you feel in that moment…just DON’T WRITE THEM DOWN!!! Keep your thoughts to yourself. If someone does cross the line, don’t hesitate to report them. Depending on what has been said, they will either get a warning, or be muted from chat at the tables for a time. Repeat offenders will be permanently muted, and you will never have to hear from them again.
