as sharonsmarty said earlier about original posts “own up to it” i agree with her
Good for you both! You are entitled to your own opinions and you can agree with each other. That’s the beauty of public forums.
I, however, completely disagree with the “dishonesty” rhetoric, and I only own up to the final version of my post. This is my opinion. Thanks for respecting it. Bye now
Can we have the open timeframe to edit back please.
To have regretful posts up until the person reads it, then afterwards go edit it so as not to look bad has nothing to do with grammatical errors. I would imagine anyone that nit picks and dissects every word everyone says just to high lite it to return a negative response would not have so many problems with grammar and punctuation Everyone knows why certain people remove or edit things. " once again as sharon says, just own up to it "
Yes I did say own up to it …but that post is gone … but still stand by the comment.
The thing is if you have marked this post as “watching” you will get an email of the post and if the post wasn’t edited quick enough other players who have it marked as “watching” will see the original post in their email.
Hmmm, not everyone. I, for once, have not the least idea what their reasons might be. Please do tell me!
“Certain people”? I wish you would help me to identify those sneaky people! I don’t want to be taken in by their posts.
Only if you can prove beyond any reasonable doubt that you have honest intentions!
My reasons for editing posts…
I am a builder
Builders use hammers
Hammers flatten fingers
Phone keys are smaller than flattened fingers
Edit mistakes on home computer
Other solutions:
Buy bigger phone
Buy huge laptop and take it with you everywhere
Only type using home computer
Learn how to type with toes (providing they’re not also flattened)
Edited: But seriously, I agree with you; I hope the editing time frame could be extended again. Maybe not indefinitely, but at least longer than 2 hours.
Yes, why not just make another post and just say sorry it came out wrong ?
I agree with Florida & Sharon , if u said it , own up to it…
Sarah you missed the most important part of that statement:
I am CLEARLY talking about a post that they haven’t yet seen. If they have seen it, and replied to it, then it’s too late, isn’t it? Of course I would then make another post, and I would own up to what I’ve said.
But if they haven’t seen or read it yet, do you really think it’s better for me to wait for them to read it and then make another post, than to just edit and correct?
If others enjoy twisting the things I say, please don’t just agree with them before you understand the point I’m making.
I also gave 3 other valid examples as to why editing history shouldn’t be visible. If people found that 1 example something for them to pick on, there are many other examples that support the idea. Let’s not get fixated on 1 point and forget tens of other ones.
May we point out that all posts show a ‘preview’ on the right hand side.
Reading this through before hitting the ‘Reply’ button should minimise the need to edit a post.
I too have written things that, upon reflection, read as harsher than I intended, and I have edited these posts to remove things that might be considered offensive. Letting the person see the original post defeats the purpose.
If anyone thinks this is somehow dishonest or cowardly, that’s fine with me. I don’t think it is, and really, that’s all that matters to me. I live my life by my code of honor, not yours.
Maya,
You might have misunderstood, if so my apologies, so may I clarify please.
Any post noone has seen is fair game to be changed in my book, for any reason.
Once viewed by even 1 person, in my book that goes away, so…
Gramatical errors, typos, an oooops in a bookmark sure… but if I change the content
of 1 of my posts then I do add the “edited”… As for something I regret saying or me
misunderstanding, I just do like above… sometimes its percieved as being harsh when
its not meant to be…
I always thought it was like 10 minutes you could edit, not 2 hours… I also didnt know
about the pencil thingy… ( my opinion ) Any unseen edited post should not show edits,
any already seen post I think its good that edits are visible.
Sassy
I couldn’t have said it better.
Good point Sarah… chances are though that if you don’t edit it immediately pretty sure someone has seen it but just didn’t make a comment. A few here , actually live here , so they don’t miss much .
I understand what you are saying that once you type on table and messages you can’t edit so why should you be able to here… but , this would be impossible to do … once you type it , it is there for the table to see, you can regret calling someone a name for playing in a certain way … and before you know it you get muted because can’t edit the comment , and as far as private messages go , you can only send them to friends so you could always send a new message explaining yourself. This being an open forum where posts stay , posts should be able to be viewed before editing … if the comment has been viewed and someone responded , you should not be able to edit the original post.
I think participating in this thread kinda reflects how empty my life is…l
